Versione italiana English version
On September 21st 2005 in Piacenza (LIMS) military airport, home of 50°Wing "Virtual", will take place the first virtual international exercise organized by the wing. Our intention is at first to get the best timeline in order to move so many aircraft as possible (we're estimating 30 aircraft) in a continue series with no pauses, executing an exercise performed by several aircrafts flown by many different skilled pilots; some aircrafts could depart from other military sites, not only from Piacenza and so, timeline must be perfect since the beginning from start up clearances to taxiing operations and so on.
Pilots themselves will choose aircraft to be used for the exercise considering type of the mission to execute. I'm listing below some kind of missions to be flown and the number (approximately) of aircrafts involved:
- C.A.P. 2/4 aircraft
- SEAD 6/8 "
- Bomber 6/8 "
- Aggressor 2/4 "
- Tactical Transport 2/4 "
- Awacs 1/2 "
- Helicopter 4/6
For the events timeline decision has been taken to execute most of the exercise within Piacenza CTR, attacking the border of Piacenza airfield using Emilia Tactical area as enemy area penetration scenery.
This area lies south of Piacenza CTR going from east to west. The remaining part of exercise will be performed in the Eastern side of Emilia Tactical area, where simulation will be taken, in which, there will be and attempt to baffle enemy reactions in attacked base defense; in this attempt enemies interceptor aircraft, will depart from another base in the neightbourhood (LIPC Cervia); in any case those portions of flights outside Piacenza CTR, will be performed in tactical areas at 500ft for SEAD and Bomber, and 500/1000 ft in the area used for interception (for air to air fight and target-hit confirmation for SEAD and Bomber, instructions will be given to pilots once in site).
Designed areas will be used for CAP and holdings (4 in total) displaced in low civilian traffic areas, where aircraft will hold at FL 105/155; accurate zone maps are attached to this document. Exercise will start in previous days (maybe one week) with partecipating people arriving and , if wished , with test flights within used areas or around them. In the exercise day all aircraft must be at designed time in the assigned parking areas or in the assigned airport with the engines on.
First in take-off will be AWACS, going assigned control area, then CAP aircraft which will fly part of the mission within tactical areas at 500ft until climb-out point to enter in the holding in order to protect SEAD and Bomber aircraft, which will follow few minutes later (always using tactical areas), to the initial point for attack procedures; in the meantime, surely CAP aircraft will leave the the formation to face Aggressor aircrafts (for these fight designed areas must be used).
The exercise continues with cross fire in the LIMS, to free the area for tactical transport arrival (departed from Pisa LIRP), which will land on the available runway to disembark intruders and then depart from the same runway without vacating it (stop on the ground will be one minute maximum) to allow further tactical landing.
These operations will be covered by further helicopters (departed from Ghedi LIPL) holding 3 different sites and overflying the destroyed base looking for alive personnel reactions. In the end of the exercise Awacs will perform a low passage over the field and then will land, starting vectoring all the aircraft involved for landing in LIMS (we will try to park everyone in LIMS).
Aircraft waiting for vectors to land will hold Piacenza CTR borders.
Once everything is done a briefing will be taken for greatings and…. Bread and "salami" !!!.......and wine???....when on the ground is allowed!!..
