Placed at just a few Km from Cagliari, Decimomannu's airport is situated in the Northern part of Decimomannu's town, south of Villasor and west of San Sperate. In this page you can find general information about the airbase and its structures. All information reported could be not fully updated.
In front of the main entrance of the airbase there is a beautiful authentic italian F-104 Starfighter as gate guardian, free for photos and touches. Inside the base, once passed the main entrance there are some gate guardias such as a german F-104, a british Harrier and italians T-33 and MB-326.

Main entrance
If you arrive from Cagliari you will have to take the A Road "SS 130"; then past Assemini and Decimomannu turnings, take SS196, just follow the signs towards the main entrance of the military airport.

Northern entrance / Threshold Runway 17
Once you get to the main entrance if you want to arrive at the northern gate of the base go on till you find the way to Villasor (SS196); then turn on your right towards San Sperate, and finally take the road that leads you to the airport by following the lights approach installation located along the airport.

Runway 35
There are many places where it's possible to see planes during landing and takeoff phases on the airbase. Runway 35 area is typically farm area, with many small roads, small farms and agricolture fields. There are different small roads, but two of them go directly to airbase boundaries, where it's possible to see the runways and where it's possible to see planes in flight, specially during their landing on runway 35. I remember you it's forbidden to make any photos and record any videos in this area towards the airbase, but you can make your photos of the airplanes in flight when you are in the fields or in the small roads (Photos and video about airbase, its installation and buildings is prohibited by Italian authorities).
To access to these small roads to go to the runway 35 threshold, from Cagliari, you must follow SS130, then SS196 going to airport of Decimomannu. After a bridge that crosses a small river, where the road becomes wide, you must turn on the right (turning on the left, you could go to Decimoputzu village) where small roads and farms begin.

Runway 17
On SS130, from Cagliari, turn on the right to take SS196, going to Decimomannu airport, once you get to the main entrance if you want to arrive at the northern gate of the base go on till you find the way to Villasor (SS196); then turn on your right towards San Sperate, SP7 and then SP4, and finally take the road that leads you to the airport by following the lights approach installation located along the airport.
